چکیده

Because it has been suggested that food rich in g-aminobutyric acid (GABA) or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) peptides have beneficial effects on blood pressure (BP) and other cardiovascular risk factors, we tested the effects of low-sodium bread, but rich in potassium, GABA, and ACEI peptides on 24-hour BP, glucose metabolism, and endothelial function. A randomized, double-blind, crossover trial was conducted in 30 patients with pre or mild-to-moderate hypertension, comparing three 4week nutritional interventions separated by 2-week washout periods. Patients were randomly assigned to consume 120 g/day of 1 of the 3 types of bread for each nutritional intervention: conventional wheat lonso, MSc, Anton do, MD, vadó, MD, PhD greater beneficial effects on 24-hour BP, endothelial function, or glucose metabolism were demonstrated after the consumption of LSBþG in a population with pre or mild-to-moderate hypertension. Further studies are warranted to clarify the effect of GABA on BP, preferably using a specific design for noninferiority trials and ambulatory BP monitoring as a measure of BP. This study was registered at Current Controlled Trials as ISRCTN31436822 (Medicine 94(46):e1807) Abbreviations: ABPM = ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, ACEI = angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory peptides, AI75 = augmentation index adjusted to 75 beats/minute, AIx = arterial stiffness, BP = blood pressure, CB = conventional bread, cIMT = carotid intima-media thickness, CVD = cardiovascular disease, GABA = g-aminobutyric acid, HPLC = high-performance liquid chromatography, LSB = low-sodium wheat bread, LSBþG = lowsodium wheat bread rich in GABA and ACEI peptides, maxIMT = maximum intima-media thickness, MedDiet = Mediterranean diet, mIMT = mean intima-media thickness, PAT = peripheral artery tonometry, RIA = radioimmunoassay, saRHI = small artery reactive

The effect of progressive aerobic continuous training on angiotensin-1, angiotensin-2 and angiotensin-converting enzyme type 2 in patients with heart failure

Background: Chronic hypertension causes structural and functional changes in the heart, ultimately leading to heart failure (HF), which further increases mortality and morbidit. HF is a complex clinical syndrome caused by various structural or functional abnormalities of the heart that impair the filling capacity of the ventricles. The findings of various trials have shown the association betwe...

Potential angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors from Iranian traditional plants described by Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine

Objective: Hypertension is an important cause of cardiovascular disorders. The angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) plays an important role in hypertension; therefore, inhibition of ACE in treatment of chronically elevated blood pressure is an important therapeutic approach. In the current review, we have p...

Study of Serum and Tissues Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Activity in Rat with Gentamicin Induced Renal Toxicity

The angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) converts the inactive angiotensin I molecule to the active angiotensin II. ACE is rich in epithelium, endothelium, and neuroepithelial cells and it found largely on the brush border of intestine and kidney proximal tubules. ACE also presents in the serum. Some pulmonary and renal toxic drugs change the serum and tissue ACE contents. In this research ACE...

Converting enzyme inhibition during chronic angiotensin II infusion in rats. Evidence against a nonangiotensin mechanism.

Interpretation of results obtained with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition in hypertensive patients has been obscured by the possibility of nonangiotensin-mediated mechanisms, particularly rats, we have compared the effects of converting enzyme inhibition (CEI) by oral captopril administration to those of dextrose. In this setting of constant angiotensin II levels, any apparent effects of...

New approaches to the treatment of diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of visual impairment in working age in industrialized countries. It is classified as non-proliferative (mild, moderate or severe) and proliferative, with diabetic macular oedema potentially developing at any of these stages. The prevalence and incidence of DR increase with diabetes duration and worsening of metabolic and blood pressure control. Curre...
